Introduction
As a singer, Jennifer shines a spotlight on the
lyrics. She breathes life into old songs with her penetrating phrasing and delves deep
into new songs with her introspective lyrics. She’s a jazz singer who equally appreciates
sensitive interpretation and knock-your-socks-off bluesy flair—which is probably why
she sites Eva Cassidy as her strongest recent influence.
As a teacher, Jennifer most prizes her versatility
and the ability to connect with her students. She teaches in a wide variety of formats,
ranging from private vocal and piano instruction, to music and movement classes, to
keyboard classes. She teaches all ages and levels of ability, ranging from a room full
of preschoolers to professional vocalists. The question she continually has in the back
of her head is: "How can I communicate the material in a way that this person will
'get it'...and use it?"
As a musician, Jennifer has her own distinctive taste:
She appreciates well-crafted arrangements, juicy musical textures, and interactive
improvisation, regardless of genre. Though her roots are in jazz, she enjoys
experimenting with other forms of music, especially as a means of improving her craft.
In addition to singing, she plays keyboards, both solo (to accompany her singing) and
in bands.
