There are times in life
In which we must negotiate the extremes–
The most passionate of highs,
The most devastating of lows.
But, most of the time, we navigate the middle ground.
We learn to dance through sadness,
To invite laughter and forgiveness,
To steady our open heart.
Moderation is not simply a dull middle ground.
It is the ability to remain fluid,
To entertain opposites and to embrace paradox.
The dance of the human heart
Requires us to open to all shades of being.
And, at more and more subtle levels,
We learn to paint our experience,
With the most complementary of hues.
